CEO World Bank Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) Visits LUMS

Ms. Keiko Honda, CEO/EVP, World Bank’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and her team, visited LUMS on July 16, 2016. The visit was hosted by Marketing & Communications and led by Prof. Dr. S. Sohail. H. Naqvi, Vice Chancellor, LUMS, including presence from the senior management.

The session began with a campus tour to the team followed by a presentation on LUMS, its programmes, generous financial aid and the National Outreach Programme (NOP) that LUMS offers to merit across the country.

This was followed by an informal chat over dinner between the MIGA team and the LUMS management. Potential collaborations were explored, including ways how MIGA could partner with the local academia and the industry at large for economic and social development. Possible partnership between LUMS and MIGA in an advisory and development capacity were also considered.

Ms. Honda was particularly impressed with the LUMS National Outreach Programme and the impact it was bringing to individuals, families and the society. She intends to write about it to the MIGA world across the globe and invite interest and involvement from partners to this programme.

The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) is a part of the World Bank and is an international financial institution which offers political risk insurance and credit enhancement guarantees.MIGA has supported Pakistan indevelopment activities, including a hydropower plant to help alleviate chronic power shortages. They are in further discussions with the government for partnerships and support in the financial and social contexts.
