Presidents Message

We are used to seeing the world through an anthropocentric lens. This human-dominant perspective, however, often leads to neglect and ignorance of other species, resulting in the creation of a hostile environment for creatures which share this earth with us. Animals now struggle to survive in a world that is unrecognisable primarily to them due to human industrial activity. The recognition of this situation confers a responsibility upon us to renegotiate a space where animals and humans exist in symbiosis, or simply side by side to each other.

In view of this situation and the principles of social responsibility instilled by the Lahore University of Management Sciences, it is essential that the response to such a reality must be immediate and decisive. Since change begins at home, it is imperative that we acknowledge the right to existence and our responsibility for the animals inhabiting the space of LUMS. Therefore, we propose an institutionalised body that practices the ethics of care, compassion, and protection owed to the animals of LUMS, and, principally, the wildlife in Pakistan. The Animal Welfare Society hopes to provide a home to enable animals to cohabit this institution in a harmonious manner while raising awareness about the inalienable rights we need to concede to other creatures, just as we owe them to our fellow humans.
In the name of compassion, in the spirit of extending kindness beyond the moniker ‘humane’, and to create a space that gives equal regard to both animals and humans, we present Animal Welfare Society @ LUMS (AWS LUMS).

Our Vision

The Animal Welfare Society hopes to provide a home to enable animals to cohabit this institution harmoniously while raising awareness about the inalienable rights we need to concede to other creatures, just as we owe them to our fellow humans. AWS hopes to create a space that gives equal regard to both animals and humans.

Our Mission

We are used to seeing the world through an anthropocentric lens. This human-dominant perspective, however, often leads to neglect and ignorance of other species, resulting in the creation of a hostile environment for creatures which share this earth with us. Animals now struggle to survive in a world that is largely unrecognisable to them due to human industrial activity.
Therefore, the mission of AWS is to form an institutionalised body that practices the ethics of care, compassion, and protection owed to the animals of LUMS, and, principally, the wildlife in Pakistan. The Animal Welfare Society hopes to provide a home to enable animals to cohabit this institution in a harmonious manner while raising awareness about the inalienable rights we need to concede to other creatures, just as we owe them to our fellow humans.
