The LUMUN Society under the supervision of the Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) Office presents
The 14th Annual LUMUN (LUMS Model United Nations) Conference
Date: December 26-30, 2017
Time: 9:00 - 5:00 pm
Venue: LUMS
Each year, the LUMUN Conference aims to simulate the United Nations and make it more accessible - by allowing like-minded individuals to converge and discuss issues of national and global significance. Through debate and diplomacy, the Society’s flagship event primarily focuses on inculcating empathy, unity and tolerance within individuals.
These ideas are furthered through the various panel talks, which give students an opportunity to interact with those who have lived the realities that are discussed in committees. This year, the LUMUN Society is trying to diversify its participation by hosting delegates from remote areas of Pakistan and abroad - as a means of bringing together people from different walks of life.
This year’s conference will be simulating eleven committees of the United Nations.
Theme: Empathise. Exercise. Empower.
We cannot point with certainty the time our world was first marred by the manacles of discrimination and exclusion. But we can assure that these inequalities continue to exist. Centuries after the conception of our mighty civilisations - after countless promises of justice and equity, there are still many in exile in their own lands. Our war is for them.
The fourteenth iteration of the LUMUN Conference endeavours to confront these realities, and champions that the path to an inclusive society is one that accepts differences - of class, faith, ethnicity and opinion. Through our theme, we hope to transcend the ravages of prejudice and privilege and inculcate empathy in each other. In this cause, we can neither walk alone nor turn back.
In that spirit, LUMUN 14 invites delegates to dissent - but with compassion; to debate - but with understanding, and to enable change - with passion.
